Our field of Microphysiological Systems (MPS) is characterized by rapid evolution, with ongoing technological advancements driving our understanding of human biology and the development of predictive drug testing models, as well as applications in regenerative and personalized medicine. This rapid progress is made possible by the close collaboration between the academic and private sectors.
The Educational Session of the MPS meeting is designed to facilitate the interaction between young scientists and established leaders in both the academic and company environment in our field through a combination of hands-on experience and discussions. Moreover, young investigators in our field frequently face the decision of pursuing a career path in academia or industry.
In 2025, we are thrilled to introduce a novel format for the Educational Session. We plan to elevate the educational experience by presenting three distinct education sessions, each catering to different facets of our field:
- Track 1 – Hands-On Experience. Building on the education session of the past three years, this track is designed for immersive learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience with the latest Chips, microfluidic controllers, and other essential tools in the field. Through live demonstrations and interactive presentations, they will explore real-world experiments and gain insight into the latest developments in OOC and MPS technology.
- Why you should attend. Young investigators in our field are often limited in the use and exposure to emerging technologies. This session, therefore, provides direct access to some of the newest and well-established technology existing today.
- Track 2 – From Bench to Boardroom: Career Panel with MPS Leaders. In collaboration with the Young Investigator Group of the International Society of Microphysiological Systems, this session focuses on the journey from early career researcher to established scientist, governmental program officer, translational scientist, or journal editor. Discussions will center around the path to success in academia and industry, potential career opportunities, mentorship, and “what not to do” when starting your career path, and from launching startups to finding new ways to apply research in the real world and in pharma.
- Why you should attend. This session is invaluable for our young and emerging researchers as it provides an opportunity to hear the stories of established scientists in all career paths. It allows them to understand ‘how they got here,’ ask for advice on ‘what to do,’ and gain insights into ‘what not to do.’ In essence, this session offers guidance to help these scientists navigate their paths ahead.
- Track 3 – “In the Hot Seat”: One-on-One Career Chats with MPS Experts. This unique session is designed to foster informal, small-group conversations between early-career scientists and established leaders in the MPS field, from both academia and industry. Our guest experts will be seated at a dedicated table where small groups of early career scientists (approximately 3–4 people at a time) will rotate through for ~45 minute sessions of engaging questions and conversation in an intimate setting.
- Why you should attend. Participants are offered a chance to ask questions and engage in open discussion with established scientists about career paths, experiences, and insights into the field of MPS.
